The Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh (RBGE) is planning to bring out a Great Himalaya Trail guide in print and electronic format on plants and their use along the GHT, the first of a series that will enrich interpretation for Nepal trekkers, improve the visitor experience, and promote local cultural / environmental awareness along the Trail. Here’s what RBGE needs from tourists, trekkers and mountaineers:
"At the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh we are embarking on a new venture to produce authoritative botanical guidebooks for Nepal. The aim is to help visitors and guides to learn about the plants they encounter on the Great Himalaya Trail. The guides, in print and electronic format, will concentrate on conspicuous plants seen along trail and give information on how these plants are used by the local people.
"To ensure we best serve the needs of potential users (trekkers, tourists, trek guides, trekking agents, tour operators and naturalists) we are seeking guidance and suggestions on what people would like the guidebooks to provide and in what format. With over 6000 plant species known from Nepal we will necessarily need to be selective in the plants and their place in local culture.
"We would be grateful if you would take a few minutes to complete this short questionnaire of 24 questions and look forward to receiving your response. The more surveys that are completed, the more useful this initiative will be.
