Talking to the Trees, a new film by Ilaria Borrelli and Guido Freddi, follows the story of a Parisian photographer embarking on a quest to rescue a child from a Cambodia brothel – a child her own husband has sexually abused.
Filmed entirely in Cambodia, Talking to the Trees was presented earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival.
It takes brave filmmakers to tackle the dark subject matter of child sexual exploitation in Cambodia -- a subject in which I am more than casually interested. Several years back, posing as a sex tourist, I participated in a sting operation to free 30 girls under the age of 16 – some as young as 8 – from brothels in and around Siem Reap.

Next week, Talking to the Trees has its official world premier at the Montreal World Film Festival. Here’s the movie trailer:
Now you have the opportunity to help promote this important film.
Anyone in the independent filmmaking business can tell you how nearly impossible it is to raise the funds for such undertakings – from pre to post production. But there is also the additional burden of promoting the film, once it is finished, including the considerable expenditure of entering the film at international film festivals. The filmmakers of Talking to the Trees, in partnership with UNICEF, now have a drive on Indiegogo.com, in which your contributions will make it possible to distribute this important film to the widest audience possible. Even a $10 donation will help!
